Commissioned by trumpeter Jeremy Maitland in 2007, and premiered at McGill university by the commissioner. The work features the flugelhorn and voice, and requires brief passages of improvisation from the former. The text is taken from many sources, and the vocalist must function as a full member of the ensemble, paying careful attention to balance with the other instruments. The flugelhorninst is required to sing, and all other voices must employ stage-whispering.

The fugue section is too short to be called a true fugue, so "fugu" seemed like a reasonable alternative, if a delicious but poisonous fish can be called "reasonable". This piece starts out quite simply but leads the listener in unexpected directions. About one minute long.
